The Wheaton College women's lacrosse team went 1-1 last week, improving to 5-0 at home thanks to an 18-3 victory against Framingham State College on Wednesday before remaining winless on the road after a 17-6 loss at Springfield College on Saturday in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action.

Against the Rams, Wheaton held a 30-8 advantage in shots for the game en route to nabbing a 14-1 halftime lead in the teams' initial meeting. Senior Caitlin Grant (Walpole, MA/Walpole) scored four times, junior Hanna Landis (Cape Elizabeth, ME/Cape Elizabeth) added a hat trick and an assist, and freshman Brittany Whynot (Fountain Hills, AZ/Fountain Hills) tallied three markers. Classmate Courtney Gleason (Newtown, CT/Newtown) netted her first two college markers, senior Bridget Thornton (Southington, CT/Cheshire Academy) provided four assists, and sophomore Tess Meyer (Concord, NH/Concord) turned in one goal and two helpers. Freshmen Sydney Ferguson (Jamestown, RI/North Kingstown), Hannah Ferris (Rye, NH/Portsmouth) and Hannah Knowles (North Kingstown, RI/Rocky Hill School) all each scored their first career goals, and sophomore Marianna Marcellino (Milton, MA/Thayer Academy) made a pair of second-half saves for the victory.

At Springfield, Grant and senior Madeline Williams (Annapolis, MD/Key School) each provided a hat trick, with Williams tacking on an assist. Marcellino made 11 stops between the pipes.

Thornton is seventh in program history in career assists (38) and stands ninth in draw controls (85), while her 15 helpers this year are tied for seventh in a season at Wheaton and are the most by a Lyon since 2004. Grant has 98 career points in 51 games, while Thornton has 91 points in 57 games.
