Men's and Women's Track & Field Athletes Win Pair of Events, Teams Place in Top 10

The Wheaton College men's and women's outdoor track & field teams each finished among the top 10 on Saturday at Stonehill College's Skyhawk Invitational, as Lyons combined to win two events, set a school record and meet an NCAA Championship standard. The women placed seventh among 15 scoring teams, while the men took eighth in the 13-team field.

Freshman Tope Waheed (East Providence, RI/East Providence) highlighted the women's portion of the meet by breaking a 10-year-old school record in the hammer throw with a heave of 143′ 3″, a full foot beyond Amini Onowho's '02 mark. Waheed took fifth in the event behind four Division I athletes. Classmate Mickey Jusme (Providence, RI/Classical) secured the triple jump title thanks to an NCAA provisional qualifying distance of 39′ 1/4″, which was more than two feet farther than the closest competitor. On the track, seniors Chizoba Ezeigwe (Brockton, MA/Thayer Academy) and Natana Jules (Brooklyn, NY/Boys and Girls) went three-four in the 400-meter dash. Wheaton's 4×100M relay quartet, consisting of Jusme, junior Renee Thompson (Hartford, CT/Weaver), sophomore Laurenmaria Smith (Providence, RI/Hope) and freshman Didine Jusme (Providence, RI/Classical), and 4×800M relay foursome, comprised of Jules and seniors Lily Calderwood (Harvard, MA/Bromfield School), Miriam Ledley (Needham, MA/Needham) and Lauren Reddy (Walnut Creek, CA/Carondelet), each took fourth. Senior Christine Moreau (Lincoln, RI/Lincoln) finished fifth in the 400M hurdles, and freshman Lauren McGrath (Wading River, NY/Shoreham-Wading River) tied for fifth in the high jump.

Freshman Marcus Dennis (Hyde Park, MA/Thayer Academy) paced the men by winning the triple jump, while junior Merzudin Ibric (Revere, MA/Phillips Academy) and senior Michael Wright (Baldwin, NY/Uniondale) went two-three in the 200-meter dash. Wheaton's 4×800M relay foursome, which consisted of sophomore Colin Fahey (Waltham, MA/Weston) and freshmen Jason Browne (Brooklyn, NY/Boys and Girls), Kyle Ricci (Warwick, RI/Bishop Hendricken) and Dylan Treivush (Beverly Hills, CA/Harvard-Westlake School), finished fourth.
