NEWMAC Singles Player of the Week goes to Garrity for first time

NORTON, MA- Wheaton College men's tennis sophomore Cullen Garrity (Middletown, MD/Saint James School) was chosen as New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Singles Player of the Week for the first time in his career for the week ending on Sunday, April 5. Garrity, who has primarily played doubles in his career, picked up wins during his first two dual singles matches while competing in the sixth slot.

Garrity notched a victory that clinched Wheaton's 5-4 come-from-behind win over visiting United States Coast Guard Academy in NEWMAC play on Saturday. After the Lyons had trailed 4-3 entering the final two singles matches, a teammate knotted the score before Garrity dispatched of his opponent, 6-2, 6-3. Against Salve Regina University on Friday, he recorded a 6-1, 6-2 victory during the Lyons' 5-0 home win.

Wheaton, now 7-4 overall and 2-0 in the league, continues its six-match homestand with its fifth in that stretch on Wednesday against 10-time defending conference champion Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) at 3:30 p.m.
