Two event victories, school record pace Wheaton at Skyhawk Invitational

EASTON, MA- The Wheaton College men's and women's outdoor track & field teams posted a pair of event victories, one school record and two top-10 team finishes during Saturday's competition at the Skyhawk Invitational in Stonehill College's Mason Stadium.
The women placed seventh among 15 scoring teams with 45 points, while the men took eighth in the 13-team field with 32 points. The hosts captured the men's title, and the University of Rhode Island was the top squad on the women's side.
Highlighting the meet was freshman Tope Waheed (East Providence, RI/East Providence), who shattered a 10-year-old school record in the women's hammer throw with a heave of 143′ 3″, which was a full foot past Amini Onowho's '02 1999 mark. Waheed took fifth in the event behind four Division I athletes.
Staying in the field, freshman Mickey Jusme (Providence, RI/Classical) secured the triple jump title by a rout, as her NCAA national meet provisional qualifying distance of 39′ 1/4″ was over two feet past the closest competitor.
On the track, seniors Chizoba Ezeigwe (Brockton, MA/Thayer Academy) and Natana Jules (Brooklyn, NY/Boys and Girls) went three-four in the 400-meter dash. Wheaton's 4×100-meter relay quartet, consisting of Jusme, junior Renee Thompson (Hartford, CT/Weaver), sophomore Laurenmaria Smith (Providence, RI/Hope) and freshman Didine Jusme (Providence, RI/Classical), and 4×800-meter relay foursome, comprised of Jules and seniors Lily Calderwood (Harvard, MA/Bromfield School), Miriam Ledley (Needham, MA/Needham) and Lauren Reddy (Walnut Creek, CA/Carondelet), each took fourth.
Senior Christine Moreau (Lincoln, RI/Lincoln) finished fifth in the 400-meter hurdles, and freshman Lauren McGrath (Wading River, NY/Shoreham-Wading River) tied for fifth in the high jump. Senior Amanda Rawson (Dudley, MA/Shepherd Hill Regional) was the sixth-fastest runner in the 5,000-meter event, Smith took seventh in the 100-meter dash, while senior Morgan Jamiel (Warwick, RI/Toll Gate) placed eighth in the 100-meter hurdles.
Freshman Marcus Dennis (Hyde Park, MA/Thayer Academy) paced the men with the top distance in the triple jump. Junior Merzudin Ibric (Revere, MA/Phillips Academy) was the runner up in the 200-meter dash, while senior Michael Wright (Baldwin, NY/Uniondale) secured third place in the event.
Wheaton's 4×800-meter relay foursome, which consisted of sophomore Colin Fahey (Waltham, MA/Weston) and freshmen Jason Browne (Brooklyn, NY/Boys and Girls), Kyle Ricci (Warwick, RI/Bishop Hendricken) and Dylan Treivush (Beverly Hills, CA/Harvard-Westlake School), finished fourth, while Dennis recorded a seventh-place mark in the long jump. Juniors Michael Latner (Torrance, CA/West) and James MacCarthy (Oakton, VA/James Madison) went eight-nine in the pole vault, and sophomore Nick Kacher (Waltham, MA/Waltham) and Ricci placed 10th in the 5,000-meter run and 200-meter dash, respectively.
The men and women will be back in action next Saturday at Northeastern University's Solomon Husky Invitational at 10:00 a.m.
