Men's and Women's Track & Field Teams Begin Outdoor Campaigns at Tufts Meet
The Wheaton College men's and women's track & field teams began their outdoor campaigns on Saturday at the Tufts University Snowflake Classic, where the women took eighth out of 16 teams and the men placed ninth among 13 squads. Three Lyons notched event victories.
Senior Morgan Jamiel (Warwick, RI/Toll Gate) posted the top time in the 100-meter hurdles, while classmate Lily Calderwood (Harvard, MA/Bromfield School) registered fourth-place marks in the 800M and 1,500M. Wheaton's 4×100M relay also turned in a fourth-place finish, as senior Chizoba Ezeigwe (Brockton, MA/Thayer Academy) joined junior Renee Thompson (Hartford, CT/Weaver), sophomore Laurenmaria Smith (Providence, RI/Hope) and freshman Didine Jusme (Providence, RI/Classical). For the men, senior Michael Wright (Baldwin, NY/Uniondale) and junior Merzudin Ibric (Revere, MA/Phillips Academy) won the 100M and 400M, respectively. Junior Howard Powell (Brooklyn, NY/Boys and Girls) was third in the 400M hurdles during his initial competition of the year, and freshman Kyle Ricci (Warwick, RI/Bishop Hendricken) placed fifth in the 400M.
