NORTON, MA- Members of the Wheaton College women's tennis team combined to win two of three singles flights and both doubles competitions during the Wheaton Invitational on Sunday inside Beard Field House. The Lyons were joined in the event by athletes from Division I College of the Holy Cross, Division II Bentley College and Division III counterpart Roger Williams University.

During singles play, sophomores Catherine Teague (Manchester, NH/Central) and Sarah Geocaris (Newport Beach, CA/Sage Hill School) captured crowns in the first and second flights, respectively, during the invitational for the second straight season. Teague downed a Bentley foe by a 6-2, 6-1 score in the opening round before dispatching of an opponent from Holy Cross, 6-2, 6-3 in the final. Geocaris corralled wins by 6-1, 6-2 and 6-1, 6-4 margins against competitors from Roger Williams and Holy Cross, respectively.

Sophomore Ellen Van Faasen (Manchester, MA/Manchester Essex Regional) narrowly came up short in her first-round match in third singles, losing both of her sets by 7-6 counts in a tiebreaker against Bentley freshman Ellen Mader (West Linn, OR/Jesuit). In the consolation final, Van Faasen rebounded with a quick 6-1, 6-0 win versus a Roger Williams foe.

After losing the second-doubles title match at last year's invitational, seniors Mallory Farmer (Washington, CT/The Gunnery) and Oriana Federico (Andover, MA/Lawrence Academy) teamed up to grab the crown in first doubles. The duo knocked off a Hawk tandem, 8-4 before edging out senior Andrea Hollot (Easthampton, MA/Holyoke Catholic) and freshman Kara Murphy (Worcester, PA/Methacton) of Bentley, 8-6 in the final.

Freshmen Rosalyn Chesky (South Hadley, MA/Wilbraham & Monson Academy) and Allesandra DiOrio (Cumberland, RI/Lincoln School) combined to knock off senior Paige Brown (Huntington, NY/Huntington) and freshman Emma Rudnik (Lake Bluff, IL/Woodlands Academy of the Sacred Heart) of the Division I Crusaders, 8-6 before picking up an 8-4 win in the championship against a Bentley twosome.

Wheaton, which is ranked 11th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) Northeast poll, completes its slate on Saturday at Skidmore College in New York at 1:00 p.m.
