Lyons win second straight match to complete Hilton Head trip

HILTON HEAD, SC- The Wheaton College men's tennis team won for the second time in as many days Wednesday when the Lyons knocked off Malone College of Ohio, 6-3. Wheaton improved to 2-3, while Malone slipped to 2-5.

The Blue and White took two of three doubles matches to open play, with senior captain Nii Manfoi Davies (Town & Country, MO/The Principia) and junior Kyle Hudgins (Uxbridge, MA/Uxbridge) had little difficulty at number three, downing their counterparts by an 8-1 final. Classmate James Little (Mount Desert, ME/Mount Desert Island) and freshman Neall Oliver (Portland, ME/Deering) registered an 8-3 victory at second doubles.

Wheaton's four singles triumphs came from the second through sixth positions, including Hudgin's 6-2, 6-4 win at number four. Sophomore Gregory Poulin (Boxboro, MA/Home Schooled) won 6-2, 6-3 at three, while classmates Harry Altman (Riverdale, NY/The Dwight School) and Brian Krantz (Milford, CT/Joseph A. Foran) were victorious in the fifth and sixth spots, respectively Altman posted a 6-3, 6-3 triumph, while Krantz won 6-1, 6-1 at six.

The Lyons return to New England and next play on Tuesday at local foe Bridgewater State College at 3:30 p.m.
