Lyons match program wins record with third straight victory

HILTON HEAD, SC- The Wheaton College women's tennis team matched a program wins record on Wednesday following its 8-1 triumph over Baldwin-Wallace College of Ohio to end its four-match spring trip, as the Lyons improved to 14-4 with their third straight victory. The Yellow Jackets remain winless at 0-6.
Ranked 11th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast poll, the Lyons earned a sweep in doubles play before winning five of their six singles matches. Sophomores Sarah Geocaris (Newport Beach, CA/Sage Hill School) and Catherine Teague (Manchester, NH/Central) brought home an 8-2 triumph in the top spot to pace the doubles teams.
Seniors Oriana Federico (Andover, MA/Lawrence Academy) and Mallory Farmer (Washington, CT/The Gunnery) picked up an 8-6 win in the third doubles slot, while sophomore Ellen Van Faasen (Manchester, MA/Manchester Essex Regional) and freshman Rosalyn Chesky (South Hadley, MA/Wilbraham & Monson Academy) needed a tiebreaker at number two to before winning 9-8.
Wheaton's top four singles players came out on top, with Geocaris cruising to a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at two. Teague collected a 6-1, 6-4 victory at number one, Van Faasen won 6-4, 7-6 in the third spot, while Chesky sandwiched 6-2 and 10-7 wins around a 6-1 loss at four. Federico rounded out the singles triumphs with a 6-4, 6-1 result in the sixth position.
The Lyons wrap up the regular season in New England by hosting the Wheaton Invitational on March 29 at 10:00 a.m. before going for the program wins mark at New York's Skidmore College on April 4 at 1:00 p.m.
