Wheaton teams draw academic honor

NORTON, MA- The Wheaton College men's and women's cross country teams each earned U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic honors for the 2008 season. The Lyon men were one of 103 squads from across Division III to qualify for the accolade, while the women were among 156.

Wheaton's men were one of 11 New England teams to receive the award, as three from the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) drew the laurel, while the women were among 18 regional institutions and six from the league. To be considered, a squad must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA regional meet. The squad must also have a minimum 3.10 cumulative grade-point average.

The Blue and White women placed 15th out of 49 scoring squads at the NCAA Division III New England Championship on November 15 after coming in second among 10 teams at the NEWMAC meet on November 1. Senior Megan O'Sadnick (Evergreen, CO/Evergreen) drew a NEWMAC Academic All-Conference laurel, pacing the Lyons in the classroom.

Wheaton's men were 25th among 49 institutions at the regional meet, while senior Scott Hafferkamp (Merrimack, NH/Merrimack), junior Miles Souza (Norton, MA/Saint Sebastian's School) and sophomore Nick Kacher (Waltham, MA/Waltham) earned academic all-league honors.
