BOSTON, MA- After having not competed since February 8, the Wheaton College synchronized swimming team swept all four routines on Saturday en route to capturing the overall championship at the five-team Boston University Invitational.

The Lyons surpassed the century mark with 102 points, while the University of Pennsylvania came in second with 75 points. The hosts finished third with 73.

Freshmen Christiana Butera (San Diego, CA/Academy of Our Lady of Peace) and Amanda Chils (Lakeland, FL/George Jenkins) led Wheaton by having a hand in three routines triumphs, including a team competition that saw the Blue and White rack up 81.500 points.

Besting five squads in team, Butera and Chils combined with senior Sharada Strasmore (Weston, CT/Weston), juniors Laura Montes (San Juan, PR/Academia San Jose) and Jenna Swinkin (Hamden, CT/Hamden), and freshmen Rachel Cordo (Wayzata, MN/Wayzata) and Anastasia Hare (Buffalo, NY/Buffalo Seminary) in the event.

During duet and trio, both winning routines narrowly nipped teammates, as Butera and Chils tallied 79.750 points to Cordo's and Swinkin's 78.750 in duet. During trio, Butera, Chils and Montes accumulated 80.000 points while narrowly edging Cordo, Strasmore and Swinkin, who finished with 79.000 points.

In solo, Strasmore claimed the top spot with 75.500 points. She and Montes also had success in figures, each winning her respective category, as Montes claimed first in A with 76.689 points and Strasmore in B with 71.010. Butera and Swinkin took second and third, respectively, in B, while Chils won C.

With three collegiate meets remaining, Wheaton heads to New York next weekend for the two-day East Collegiate Regional Championship. Held at Keuka College, the meet is scheduled to begin on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
