The Wheaton College men's and women's track & field teams both competed at the non-scoring USA Track & Field (USATF) New England Championship on Sunday, when Lyons reached four NCAA Championship provisional qualifying marks and won three events.
Freshman Mickey Jusme (Providence, RI/Classical) notched provisional standards while finishing second in both the long and triple jumps, recording the top triple jump by a collegian at 38′ 3 1/4″, which was 3 1/2″ shy of an automatic qualifying mark. Her leap in the long jump went for 17′ 11 1/2″. Classmate Ashley Dell'Aira (Shoreham, NY/Shoreham-Wading River) finished behind Jusme in the triple jump with a provisional mark of 36′ 10 1/2″. The women also accounted for wins in the 4×440-yard and distance medley relays. The 4×440-yard quartet was comprised of seniors Natana Jules (Brooklyn, NY/Boys and Girls) and Celeste Karpow (Wilton, CT/Wilton), sophomore Laurenmaria Smith (Providence, RI/Hope) and freshman Jenifer DeNormandie (Bethel, ME/Telstar Regional), as they edged Division I Brown University by 0.36 seconds. For the DMR, seniors Lily Calderwood (Harvard, MA/Bromfield School), Miriam Ledley (Needham, MA/Needham) and Christine Moreau (Lincoln, RI/Lincoln) joined junior Katie Pratt (Litchfield, CT/Litchfield). On the men's side, freshman Cailean Robinson (Newton, MA/Phillips Exeter Academy) reached an NCAA Championship provisional time in the 60M dash at 6.95, falling 0.03 ticks shy of the winner from Brown.
