Synchronized Swimming Treks to New York for Pair of Meets, Wins Dual Event at Keuka

The Wheaton College synchronized swimming team continued its in-region success by tying for second during one meet and winning another over the weekend in New York. The Lyons tied Keuka College for second at the three-team Canisius College Invitational on Saturday before downing the Storm, 96-88 on Sunday. After finishing behind Keuka in all six meetings last season, Wheaton has twice finished ahead of and once tied the Storm in three competitions this winter.

During the routines-only Canisius Invitational, Wheaton's best showing was in the team category, as senior Sharada Strasmore (Weston, CT/Weston), juniors Laura Montes (San Juan, PR/Academia San Jose) and Jenna Swinkin (Hamden, CT/Hamden), and freshmen Christiana Butera (San Diego, CA/Academy of Our Lady of Peace), Amanda Chils (Lakeland, FL/George Jenkins), Rachel Cordo (Wayzata, MN/Wayzata) and Anastasia Hare (Buffalo, NY/Buffalo Seminary) claimed second place. Montes took third in solo and combined with Butera and Chils for third in trio.

Chils played a role in a team-high four victories at Keuka, taking C figures and teaming with Butera to perform the top duet. Butera, Chils and Montes won trio, while the septet of Butera, Chils, Cordo, Hare, Montes, Strasmore and Swinkin performed the winning team routine. Montes topped the A figures event and placed second in solo, and Strasmore and Butera took first and second, respectively, in B figures. Hare was second in C, while Cordo, Strasmore and Swinkin recorded a second-place trio finish.
