Synchronized Swimming Captures Five-Team Wheaton Invitational Behind Seven Wins

The Wheaton College synchronized swimming team won its own five-team Wheaton Invitational on Saturday, as the Lyons captured seven events while performing routines for the first time this season.

During figures, junior Laura Montes (San Juan, PR/Academia San Jose) topped the A category, senior Sharada Strasmore (Weston, CT/Weston) took the top slot in B, and freshman Amanda Chils (Lakeland, FL/George Jenkins) won C. Chils and Montes played a role in three victories each during the routines segment, as Montes topped the solo competition and joined Chils and freshman Christiana Butera (San Diego, CA/Academy of Our Lady of Peace) to perform the winning trio routine. Butera and Chils combined to top the duet field, while Butera, Chils, Montes, Strasmore, junior Jenna Swinkin (Hamden, CT/Hamden) and freshmen Rachel Cordo (Wayzata, MN/Wayzata) and Anastasia Hare (Buffalo, NY/Buffalo Seminary) collaborated to swim the victorious team routine.
