Lyon tracksters wrap up competition at the two-day Terrier Invitational

BOSTON, MA- The Wheaton College men's and women's track & field teams wrapped up competition at the Terrier Invitational on Saturday, as the Lyons finished the non-scoring two-day meet with a handful of top-10 marks at Boston University's Track and Tennis Center.

Freshman Cailean Robinson (Newton, MA/Phillips Exeter Academy) missed an NCAA national meet provisional qualifying mark in the 55-meter dash by 0.03 ticks, taking fourth in the preliminaries with a time of 6.50. He and senior Michael Wright (Baldwin, NY/Uniondale) each advanced to the finals, with Robinson placing seventh and Wright 13th.

Sophomore Mark Williamson (Vienna, VA/James Madison) turned in a fifth-place finish during the 200M dash in 22.10, while the 4×400-meter relay squad came in 10th in 3:20.96, which was 2.36 seconds shy of an NCAA provisional standard. The quartet consisted of Robinson, Williamson, junior Merzudin Ibric (Revere, MA/Phillips Academy) and freshman Kyle Ricci (Warwick, RI/Bishop Hendricken).

Freshman Marcus Dennis (Hyde Park, MA/Thayer Academy) took 13th in the triple jump, and junior Michael Latner (Torrance, CA/West) was 15th in the pole vault.

Wheaton's women's 4×400-meter relay team, comprised of senior Christine Moreau (Lincoln, RI/Lincoln), junior Renee Thompson (Hartford, CT/Weaver) and first-year athletes Lauren Cardarelli (Cranston, RI/La Salle Academy) and Didine Jusme (Providence, RI/Classical), took 16th with a time of 3:59.55, which was 1.15 seconds shy of meeting an NCAA provisional time.

Freshmen Ashley Dell'Aira (Shoreham, NY/Shoreham-Wading River) and Tope Waheed (East Providence, RI/East Providence) registered the women's team's top finishes with 10th-place marks in the triple jump and weight throw, respectively. Dell'Aira landed a jump of 35′ 11 1/2″, and Waheed's heave went 48′ 11 1/2″.

In the high jump, sophomore Erin Neville (North Providence, RI/La Salle Academy) tied for 11th with a clearance of 5′ 3″, while freshman Lauren McGrath (Wading River, NY/Shoreham-Wading River) tied for 18th at 5′ 1″.

The Lyons return to action next Saturday when they host a meet for the first time in six seasons, as the Wheaton Invitational is scheduled to get underway at 9:00 a.m.
