Men's (2-9) and Women's (5-5-1) Swimming & Diving Host Trio of Non-Conference Foes

The Wheaton College men's and women's swimming & diving teams both downed visiting Brandeis University on Wednesday before completing last week by hosting a double-dual meet with New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) members Connecticut College and Trinity College on Saturday. The Lyon men downed the Judges, 118-113 before slipping to the Camels and Bantams, 172-106 and 191.5-105.5, respectively. Wheaton's women knocked off Brandeis, 125-118 and easily downed Trinity, 208-89 but fell to Connecticut College, 182-111.

Against Brandeis, each Lyon squad clinched narrow victories during the final event. The women nailed down the win after taking the top two spots in the 400-yard freestyle relay, as senior Caitlin Glover (Durham, NH/Berwick Academy) and sophomores Samantha Farrell (Reading, MA/Reading Memorial), Sara Hollar (La Crescenta, CA/Flintridge Prep) and Nicole Zais (Sudbury, MA/Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) won the event. Sophomores Stephany Perkins (Monmouth, ME/Monmouth Academy) and Dania Piscetta (Belmont, NH/Belmont) won the 50 and 100 free, respectively. The men secured the victory by scoring six points in the 400 free relay, taking second and third. Wheaton won four events, as sophomore Jonathan Gold (West Harrison, NY/Fordham Prep) swept the one- and three-meter dives, classmate Sam Dean-Lee (Rocky Hill, CT/Xavier) captured the 200 free, and freshman Devon Best (Brentwood, TN/Ravenwood) won the 200 back.

During the Wheaton women's split with Connecticut College and Trinity, the Lyons notched three event wins. Piscetta topped the 100 free field, while freshmen Sarah Miller (Madison, NJ/Madison) and Julia Wright (Pomfret, VT/Northfield Mount Hermon School) were victorious in the 200 free and one-meter dive events, respectively. Piscetta also anchored a 200 medley relay quartet that came within 0.03 ticks of first place, as she was joined by Farrell, Zais and junior Iris Meehan (Bar Harbor, ME/Mount Desert Island). Zais fell 0.36 seconds shy of the top mark in the 100-yard breaststroke while siding with Hollar, Perkins and Piscetta during a runner-up finish in the 400 free relay, one in which they were 0.72 ticks off the top time. Perkins was the 200 breast runner up, and Wright took second in the three-meter dive. For the men, Dean-Lee captured the 200 free, while sophomore Corey Best (Brentwood, TN/Ravenwood) took second in the 200 butterfly and 400 individual medley.
