Wheaton hosts NESCAC's Connecticut College and Trinity in double-dual

NORTON, MA- The Wheaton College men's and women's swimming & diving teams hosted New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) foes Connecticut College and Trinity College in a double-dual meet on Saturday in Balfour Natatorium.
The women split with the Bantams and Camels to even their season mark at 5-5-1, as Wheaton topped Trinity, 208-89 but fell to Connecticut College, 182-111. The men dropped a pair of decisions to slip to 2-9, suffering a 172-106 setback to Connecticut College and a 191.5-105.5 loss to Trinity.
In addition to earning three first-place marks, the Lyon women turned in five runner-up finishes, including three that were decided by 0.72 seconds or less. Sophomore Dania Piscetta (Belmont, NH/Belmont) claimed the top time in the 100-yard freestyle, while freshmen Sarah Miller (Madison, NJ/Madison) and Julia Wright (Pomfret, VT/Northfield Mount Hermon School) were victorious in the 200 free and one-meter dive events, respectively.
Piscetta also anchored a 200-yard medley relay quartet that came within 0.03 ticks of first place, as she was joined by junior Iris Meehan (Bar Harbor, ME/Mount Desert Island) and sophomores Samantha Farrell (Reading, MA/Reading Memorial) and Nicole Zais (Sudbury, MA/Lincoln-Sudbury Regional).
Zais fell 0.36 seconds shy of the top mark in the 100-yard breaststroke while siding with Piscetta and sophomores Sara Hollar (La Crescenta, CA/Flintridge Prep) and Stephany Perkins (Monmouth, ME/Monmouth Academy) during a runner-up finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay, one in which they were 0.72 ticks off the top time. Perkins placed second in the 200-yard breaststroke, as did Wright during the three-meter dive, falling by 0.68 points.
For the men, sophomore Sam Dean-Lee (Rocky Hill, CT/Xavier) captured the 200-yard freestyle race, while classmate Corey Best (Brentwood, TN/Ravenwood) took second in the 200-yard butterfly and 400-yard individual medley events.
Dean-Lee swam a leg for each the third-place 400-yard freestyle relay team and the 200-yard medley relay quartet, which tied for third. Sophomore Ben Sabol (Saint Petersburg, FL/Shorecrest Prep) and freshman Cole Larson-Whittaker (Penobscot, ME/George Stevens Academy) competed in both relays, while sophomore Eddie Gillie (Haverhill, MA/Saint John's Prep) took part in the 400 free and classmate Zach Fichman-Klein (North Attleboro, MA/North Attleboro) in the 200 medley.
Other third-place marks came from Gillie in the 200 and 500 free races, Larson-Whittaker during the 1,650 free, sophomore Jonathan Gold (West Harrison, NY/Fordham Prep) in the one-meter dive, freshman Devon Best (Brentwood, TN/Brentwood) during the 200 back and classmate Spencer Deans (Redding, CT/Joel Barlow) in the 400 individual medley.
The Lyons compete in their final home meet of the regular season next Saturday against New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) foe Babson College. Start time is slated for 1:00 p.m.
