Men's (1-7) and Women's (3-4-1) Swimming & Diving Squads Both Win Own Invitational
The Wheaton College men's and women's swimming & diving teams won their own invitational on Saturday, as the women topped a six-team field while the men scored the most points among four competing schools.
For the women, sophomore Dania Piscetta (Belmont, NH/Belmont) won the 100- and 200-yard freestyles and the 100-yard butterfly and led off for the 800 free relay team that fell just 0.03 seconds shy of first place. She was joined by junior Sarah Houlihan (West Springfield, MA/West Springfield), sophomore Stephany Perkins (Monmouth, ME/Monmouth Academy) and freshman Sarah Miller (Madison, NJ/Madison). Perkins won the 200-yard breaststroke, junior Iris Meehan (Bar Harbor, ME/Mount Desert Island) topped the 100-yard backstroke field, and sophomore Nicole Zais (Sudbury, MA/Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) won the 100 breast. Meehan, Zais, sophomore Samantha Farrell (Reading, MA/Reading Memorial) and freshman Taryn Brosnan (Westford, MA/Academy of Notre Dame) also joined to top the 400-yard medley relay field. On the men's side, sophomore Corey Best (Brentwood, TN/Ravenwood) won the 100 fly and tied for first in the 200 fly, classmate Eddie Gillie (Haverhill, MA/Saint John's Prep) bested the 400-yard individual medley field, and freshman Cole Larson-Whittaker (Penobscot, ME/George Stevens Academy) captured the 1,000 free.
