Men's (1-4) and Women's (2-2-1) Swimming & Diving Oppose Three 2008 NCAA Teams

The Wheaton College men's and women's swimming & diving teams hosted New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) counterpart United States Coast Guard Academy and non-region foe New York University on Saturday. Wheaton's women tied the Bears, 149.5-149.5 for the first stalemate in the program's 18-year history but lost to NYU, which placed 41st at last year's NCAA Championship, by a 218-82 count. The Lyon men fell, 246-41 against Coast Guard, the defending NEWMAC meet champ that tied for 41st at last year's national meet, while dropping a 247-46 decision against the Violets, who took ninth at the 2008 NCAA Championship.

Sophomore Nicole Zais (Sudbury, MA/Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) won the 200-yard breaststroke and placed second in each the 50 freestyle, 100 breast and 400 medley relay. Zais anchored the 400 medley relay, joining junior Iris Meehan (Bar Harbor, ME/Mount Desert Island) and sophomores Stephany Perkins (Monmouth, ME/Monmouth Academy) and Dania Piscetta (Belmont, NH/Belmont). Piscetta was the runner up in the 200-yard free race and tied for second in the 100, while freshman Julia Wright (Pomfret, VT/Northfield Mount Hermon School) was second in the three-meter dive. For the men, sophomore Zach Fichman-Klein (North Attleboro, MA/North Attleboro) had Wheaton's best showing, taking fifth during the 100-yard backstroke.
