Trio of field hockey players tabbed all-league for third straight year

WORCESTER, MA- A trio of Wheaton College field hockey players was selected to New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-Conference teams for the third consecutive year during Tuesday's postseason meeting at Clark University.
Senior forward Alisa Ardito (Branford, CT/Branford) became the fourth Lyon voted to an all-conference team three times, as she was awarded first-team honors after earning second-team accolades the last two seasons. Named to the second team were juniors Andrea Bagley (Foxboro, MA/Foxboro) and Alex Block (Saratoga, CA/Saratoga), who earned their first all-league awards. All three finished the season with 19 starts.

Alisa Ardito
Ardito was first on the team with 11 assists and 23 points and was tied for second with six goals and a pair of game-winners. Her assist total matched a school record and placed third in the conference. She also tied for fifth in NEWMAC play in each assists and helpers per game. Ardito played a hand in 17 of the team's 33 markers, netting all four of her NEWMAC tallies in a trio of one-goal wins. She had at least one point in 11 of 19 games, including in four of the final five contests. Ardito completed her career first in program history in assists (33) and games (82) and third in goals (28) and points (89).

Andrea Bagley
In her initial fall as a starter, Bagley posted a 1.59 goals against average with five shutouts as the team's lone keeper. She finished first in the league during NEWMAC action in GAA (0.83) and save percentage (.857) and second in shutouts (3). Overall, Bagley was first among league keepers in save percentage (.823), tied for first in shutouts, and was second in saves (144) and saves per game (7.58). Bagley yielded one goal or fewer in 12 games for a team that was 8-2 in one-goal games. In league play, she allowed one goal or less in six contests and helped Wheaton go 4-1 in one-goal affairs. Bagley is fourth at Wheaton in season wins and minutes and tied for fifth in shutouts.

Alex Block
Block tallied a team-high seven goals while helping control play in the midfield, as Wheaton finished second in the league during NEWMAC play in goals allowed (7) and GAA (0.83). She scored in six different games, including against league foes Babson College and Smith College, while netting the lone goal in a 1-0 win at Wesleyan University. Block scored two markers in a 2-1 win at Salve Regina University and had a defensive save against then-top-ranked Bowdoin College.
Wheaton, which had a program-best six-game winning streak against league teams stand until the conference tournament semifinal, advanced to its third straight league semifinal for the first time. The Lyons went 12-7 overall, picking up wins in eight of their last 10 matches, while going 6-2 in the NEWMAC and earning the second seed in the league tourney. Wheaton's six conference wins matched a program high.
