WORCESTER, MA- Four Wheaton College men's soccer sophomores were named to a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-Conference team during Tuesday's postseason meeting at Clark University. This marked the 11th consecutive year at least three Lyons earned all-league honors.

Midfielder Kyle Sye (Acton, MA/Acton-Boxboro Regional), who was voted NEWMAC Rookie of the Year last fall, picked up all-league second-team accolades for the second straight year, while forwards Yuri Moreira (Marlboro, MA/Northfield Mount Hermon School) and Josh Solomon (Acton, MA/Acton-Boxboro Regional) and back David Ferriero (Medway, MA/Medway) earned their initial selections. Ferriero and Solomon were tabbed to the first team, while Moreira was named to the second squad, as all four players earned 19 starts.

After beginning the year on offense, Ferriero moved to the backfield, as Wheaton yielded more than two goals only twice all season and allowed one goal or less 12 times. He guided a unit that gave up only two markers in the final 521:43 of the regular season. Offensively, he tied for ninth in the league with five assists while adding four tallies. Of the nine goals in which Ferriero played a part, six either tied the game or provided Wheaton with a lead.

Josh Solomon

Josh Solomon

Solomon led the team with 10 assists, posting the most helpers in a season by a Lyon player since 2003, while tying for the squad lead with 26 points and finishing second with eight goals. As one of five players in the league to be among the top 10 in overall goals, assists and points, he was third in assists, tied for fourth in points and tied for sixth in goals. In league play, Solomon tied for second in goals and tied for third in points. He twice tied a team mark with three assists and posted a pair of two-goal games.

Yuri Moreira

Moreira paced the Blue and White with 12 goals and four game-winners, ranking third and in a tie for third, respectively, among all NEWMAC players. Tying for the team lead with 26 points, which tied Solomon for fourth best in the conference, Moreira turned in four multi-goal games, including against Springfield College and then-10th-ranked Williams College on consecutive days. Of the 14 goals in which he played a hand, half either tied the game or provided the Lyons with an advantage.

Kyle Sye

Kyle Sye

Sye aided an offense that averaged two goals and contributed to a defense that yielded a little more than one goal per contest. He helped Wheaton score multiple goals 12 times this season, six times netting at least three. Sye tallied his lone goal after just four minutes at Williams to put Wheaton on top for good and help it spring an upset, and one of his assists came on a game-winner later in the year.

The quartet helped lead Wheaton to a 10-5-4 season record, marking the 17th straight year the Lyons posted a double-figure win total. The Blue and White also advanced to its ninth straight NEWMAC Tournament semifinal round before falling to eventual runner-up Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Finishing sixth in the regular season standings, Wheaton went 1-3-2.
