Women's Volleyball (13-20, 3-6) Falls in First Round of NEWMAC Tournament

The Wheaton College women's volleyball team saw its season end in the first round of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament on Tuesday, as the seventh-seeded Lyons dropped a 3-0 (20-25, 7-25, 13-25) decision at number-two Wellesley College, falling to the eventual tournament runner up. After a 2-12 start, Wheaton finished the season on an 11-8 run.

Against Wellesley, which was ranked third in the New England Women's Volleyball Association (NEWVA) poll, the Lyons scored three of the first four points in the opening set and trailed just 18-14 late before the hosts pulled away. The Blue used a big run in each of the final two sets to claim victory. In her final collegiate match, senior Liana Merrill (Northwood, NH/Coe-Brown Northwood Academy) tallied seven kills, while junior Lauren Kraus (Westboro, MA/Westboro) also turned in seven kills. Sophomore Becca Rose (Sudbury, MA/Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) had 14 assists, freshman Emily Davisson (Carpinteria, CA/Laguna Blanca School) notched nine digs, and classmate Lauren McGrath (Wading River, NY/Shoreham-Wading River) picked up three blocks.

Rose heads into her junior campaign fifth in program history in career assists (2,044) after posting the ninth-best season total (807), while Kraus enters her senior year eighth in career kills (779) and blocks (220), as she looks to become just the sixth Lyon with 1,000 kills. Merrill finished her career appearing in 132 matches and 425 sets, coming within three and four, respectively, of the program's top 10.
