Women's Soccer (14-4-1, 6-1-1) Posts Four Goals in Each Game During 2-0 Week

The Wheaton College women's soccer team, which is ranked sixth in New England by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), went 2-0 in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play last week, downing visiting Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), 4-0 on Tuesday before defeating homestanding Smith College, 4-1 on Saturday. With one NEWMAC game remaining, Wheaton is tied for first in the league standings and could earn at least a share of a 10th straight regular season crown. The Lyons have guaranteed themselves the right to host a conference tournament first-round game for the 14th consecutive season.

Senior Jessie Landau (Pound Ridge, NY/Fox Lane) scored twice on Senior Day to push Wheaton past MIT, netting her first two markers of the season. In her initial 69 career contests, she had totaled one goal, which came in her ninth game as a freshman. Sophomore Emily Hough (Norwich, VT/Hanover) added a goal and an assist, while freshman Jessica Gray (Carver, MA/Sacred Heart) also scored. Classmate Lindsay Leddy (Lincoln, RI/Wheeler School) made four saves.

At Smith, Hough came off the bench to tally her second hat trick of the season, and freshman Jessica Stuart (Weymouth, MA/Weymouth) also scored. Leddy turned aside one shot, while the Lyons outshot the Pioneers, 28-4.

Hough is ninth in program history in career points (77) and 10th in goals (27), while sophomore Melida Alvarez (Saugus, MA/Buckingham Browne & Nichols) is eighth in goals (34) and 10th in points (75). Hough's 11 assists leave her one shy of the program's single-season top 10, and her 37 points are three short of the top 10. In her past 12 contests, Hough played a role in 21 of Wheaton's 31 goals, scoring 10 times and handing out 11 assists. Leddy is tied for fifth in shutouts (8).
