NORTON, MA- The Wheaton College field hockey team will participate in October's National Breast Cancer Awareness Month by hosting a Play 4 the Cure event this Saturday when the Lyons face New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) foe Smith College on Clark Field at 1:00 p.m.

Wheaton is one of over 150 field hockey programs nationwide to take part in a program that was created by Tina Reinprecht, who is the founder, director and head coach of Mystx Field Hockey Club in North Wales, Pennsylvania. Since an inaugural indoor benefit tournament for breast cancer research was held in 2006, over $11,000 has been raised and contributed to the Philadelphia affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation.

With several collegiate, high school, middle school and club teams joining the movement, Longstreth Women's Sports is providing a free kit that contains ideas and promotional materials for raising funds. The kit also includes 40 pink wristbands for the players to wear and two pink balls that will be used throughout the game. Breast cancer awareness information will be available, and all proceeds will go to the Komen foundation.

Fans are encouraged to wear pink on Saturday to support this worthy cause. The game will also serve as Senior Day for Wheaton to recognize its senior class.
