Cross country athletes take part in All New England Championship

BOSTON, MA- The Wheaton College men's and women's cross country teams took part in the All New England Championship Saturday afternoon at Franklin Park. The women placed 32nd with 835 points, while the men scored 1,413 points to take 46th. The University of Massachusetts at Lowell men won with 79 points, and Boston College captured the women's title with 38 points.
Senior Lauren Reddy (Walnut Creek, CA/Carondelet) finished the 5,000-meter course in 19:05 to place 73rd overall, while classmates Lily Calderwood (Harvard, MA/Bromfield School) and Amanda Rawson (Dudley, MA/Shepherd Hill Regional) were 115th and 123rd, respectively, with times of 19:36 and 19:41.
Freshmen Savannah Geasey (Portsmouth, RI/Portsmouth), Maryellen Groot (Reading, MA/Reading Memorial) and Rachel Scavera (North Bend, OR/North Bend) also competed in the race.
Sophomore Colin Fahey (Waltham, MA/Weston) led the men during the 8K run, while senior Scott Hafferkamp (Merrimack, NH/Merrimack), freshman Todd Woodworth (Weston, MA/Middlesex School), senior Dan Libon (Foxboro, MA/Foxboro) and sophomore Brandon Waltz (South Thomaston, ME/Rockland District) followed.
The Lyons return to Franklin Park on Friday for the Saints Invitational, hosted by Emmanuel College. The women are scheduled to get underway at 4:00 p.m., while the men will begin at 4:45 p.m.
