NEWPORT, RI- The Wheaton College women's tennis team ran away with a 9-0 non-league victory over host Salve Regina University Friday afternoon in each team's season opener.

The Lyons gave up just two games at first and third doubles and three in the second slot to complete the doubles sweep. Sophomore Ellen Van Faasen (Manchester, MA/Manchester Essex Regional) and first-year player Rosalyn Chesky (South Hadley, MA/Wilbraham & Monson Academy) sided for the second-doubles victory.

Wheaton's strong doubles play set the tone for singles action, as Geocaris, Knies and Chesky shut their opponents out in the second, fourth and sixth singles spots, respectively. DiOrio surrendered just one game at number three, while Teague and Van Faasen gave up a mere two in the first and fifth positions, respectively.
