Weekly LyonField Hockey (3-7, 0-2) Drops One-Goal Games to Wesleyan, Mount HolyokeThe Wheaton College field hockey team continued its season of near misses with a pair of one-goal losses last week at Clark Field. The Lyons fell to Wesleyan University, 3-2 on Wednesday before dropping a 2-1 overtime decision Saturday against Mount Holyoke College. With each of the Lyons' defeats coming by a lone tally this fall, Wheaton's seven one-goal losses are the most among the 257 field hockey teams sponsored by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Against Wesleyan, the Lyons and Cardinals combined for all five goals during the first 25:36 during a non-conference match. Junior Shea Clarke (Bellingham, MA/Bellingham) tallied less than seven minutes in, but the visitors rallied to lead with 12:08 remaining in the half. Sophomore Lyndsie Ryalls (Branford, CT/Branford) recorded the equalizer at 10:20 off a pass from senior Leigh-Anne Cioffredi (Lebanon, NH/Lebanon), but Wesleyan regained the lead for good just 56 seconds later. Senior Emily Fiskio (Branford, CT/Branford) made 14 saves, moving into third in program history, while classmate Diane Trifilo (Baldwinville, MA/Narragansett Regional) notched a defensive save. During a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) loss to Mount Holyoke, the Blue and White allowed the game-winning goal 4:10 into the extra period. The visitors took a 1-0 lead 5:39 into the second half, but Ryalls netted a game-tying goal for the second straight contest with 10:30 remaining in regulation. Fiskio ended up with nine saves, moving within 14 stops of 600 saves for her career, and junior Elizabeth Reimers (Wareham, MA/Tabor Academy) posted a defensive save. Men's Soccer (7-3, 3-0-0) Picks Up Two More Wins, Victorious in Six of Last Seven GamesThe regionally-ranked Wheaton College men's soccer team won twice last week, moving to 6-1 in its last seven contests, thanks to a 5-0 win over Rivier College on Wednesday at Keefe Field and a 1-0 victory at the United States Coast Guard Academy in NEWMAC play Saturday evening. The Lyons, who were tied for 10th in last week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) New England poll, are tied for first place in the NEWMAC and have yielded only one goal in the last 379:12. In a non-conference match with Rivier, five different Lyons scored. Sophomore Dan Chong (Miami, FL/Coral Reef) notched the game-winner at 11:44 while freshmen Dan Lane (Dedham, MA/Worcester Academy) and Jeff Shea (Canton, MA/Canton) scored five minutes apart during the first half. Sophomore Trevor Cote (Portsmouth, RI/Providence Country Day) and freshman Justin Landsberger (London, England/American School) tacked on second-half tallies. For Shea and Landsberger, the goals were the first of their college careers. Wheaton outshot the Raiders, 39-5. Lane scored the game's lone goal against Coast Guard during a conference win. With 4:46 remaining in the opening half, Lane recorded his tally off junior Chris Sentance's (Concord, MA/Williston Northampton School) third assist of the season. Thanks to his fourth game-winner, Lane extended his points streak to seven games, during which time the first-year forward has seven goals and three assists. Junior goalkeeper Matt Pachniuk (Newtown, CT/Newtown) made four stops. Women's Soccer (7-4-0, 2-0-0) Knocks off Regional Rival Amherst During 2-0 WeekThe Wheaton College women's soccer team, ranked sixth in New England last week by the NSCAA, defeated regional rival Amherst College, 1-0 on Wednesday before breezing past NEWMAC foe Mount Holyoke College, 6-0 on Saturday. With the win, Wheaton extended its NEWMAC unbeaten streak to 54 contests. The Lyons haven't allowed a goal in 353:45 dating back four games. Against Amherst, which was ranked fourth in New England by the NSCAA and receiving votes in the national poll, sophomore Lauren Konopka (Medford, NJ/Holy Cross) notched the game's lone goal to boost the visitors in non-conference action. After a scoreless first half, Konopka tallied at 61:19 off an assist from classmate Ashley Furr (Chicopee, MA/Cathedral). Sophomore keeper Stacey Kronenberg (Belchertown, MA/Belchertown) stopped two shots. Konopka continued her scoring frenzy at Mount Holyoke, posting her first career three-goal game during a NEWMAC victory. The forward netted a natural hat trick during a span of 15:34 in the first stanza to give Wheaton a 3-0 halftime lead. Senior Kate Miller (Williamstown, MA/Mount Greylock Regional) recorded a goal and two assists, while classmate Katie Hall (Longmont, CO/Niwot) and sophomore Jenna Rabesa (Teaticket, MA/Falmouth) also scored. Payman earned a first-round bye in the 56-player field and won his first match, 6-7, 6-2, 6-4 before a 6-4, 6-3 loss in the next round. Payman and Sheers kicked off doubles play with an 8-5 victory over a tandem from Colby College but suffered an 8-3 setback in their next match. After finishing sixth in the NEWMAC a year ago, the Lyons are currently fourth in the league with two matches remaining. Against Clark, the Lyons lost just three points during a dominating victory. Wheaton began the match with three 8-0 doubles wins, as the teams of juniors Jamie Weiss (Chicago, IL/Francis W.
