Weekly LyonField Hockey (3-2) Defeats UMass-Dartmouth in Non-League GameThe Wheaton College field hockey team posted its third shutout of the season Tuesday afternoon, as the host Lyons downed UMass-Dartmouth in a non-conference game. Sophomore Melissa Busfield (Gloucester, MA/Gloucester) collected her second multiple-goal game of the season, propelling Wheaton to its third victory of the season. Wheaton took a 1-0 advantage 15 minutes into the contest, when Busfield took a loose ball inside the circle and slipped a backhand shot past the UMD goalie. The Blue and White were then held scoreless until the 11:35 minute mark, when Busfield came in from the left side of the circle and slid the loose ball over the goal line for a 2-0 lead. Wheaton dominated the contest with a 12-1 advantage in penalty corners and 15-2 margin in shots. For the second time this season, Lyon freshman Emily Fiskio (Bransfield, CT/Bransfield) and senior Amy Haller (Pittsburgh, PA/Western Reserve Academy) combined efforts in goal for the win. Men's Soccer (4-2-0) Extends Home Winning Streak to 18 GamesThe Wheaton College men's soccer team extended one of the nation's longest home winning streaks in its 2002 opener on Keefe Field Thursday, as the Lyons handed Western New England College a convincing 6-0 loss in a non-conference contest. Wheaton pushed its margin to 2-0 in the 16th minute, as senior David Wurm (Dunstable, MA/Groton-Dunstable) managed to escape a pair of WNEC defenders on the left side of the goal box and direct his shot to the left netting past the Golden Bear goalkeeper. Sophomore Gabe Margolis (Brookline, MA/Beaver Country Day) picked up the assist on the play. Six different players tallied goals for the Lyons. Rounding out Wheaton's final four goals included Antoniuk, senior Shaun Cavanaugh (Newtown, CT/Newtown), junior John Chronis (Danvers, MA/Beaver Country Day) and sophomore Matt Ristuccia (Newton, MA/Newton North). Freshman goalkeeper Max Hellman (Oklahoma City, OK/Casady) earned his first collegiate start and shutout, as the Blue and White held an aggregate 34-4 shot advantage for the game. Women's Soccer (6-1-0) Ranked First in New England, Seventh in the NationThe Wheaton College women's soccer team was ranked first in New England and seventh in the country according to the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll. The Lyons solidified that mark Wednesday afternoon, as the Blue and White posted a convincing 4-0 victory over Framingham State in non-conference action. On Saturday, the Lyons tallied a pair of second-half goals to come from behind to defeat the fourth-ranked team in New England, Keene State, 2-1. Prihoda's second goal of the game came in the sixth minute, followed by her first hat trick of the season at the 22:13 minute mark, thanks to a cross from sophomore Erin Brennan (Mesa, AZ/Xavier College Prep). Prihoda received the crossing pass and managed to volley her shot into the left side of the netting. First-year Katie Hall (Longmont, CO/Niwot) extended the Wheaton cushion to 4-0, as she posted her first collegiate goal at the 36:44 minute mark. Caromile picked up her second assist. Junior goalkeeper Jessica Broomhead (Barrington, RI/Barrington) registered four saves in nearly 76 minutes of time, while freshman goalie Emily Lipsky (Whitestone, NY/Sacred Heart Academy) finished the final 14 minutes of regulation.
