Eighth-ranked Amherst hands women's lacrosse 20-2 setback at BabsonApril 18, 2007 BABSON PARK, MA- The Wheaton College women's lacrosse team ran up against its sixth nationally-ranked opponent of the season Wednesday afternoon, as the Lyons suffered a 20-2 non-conference setback to Amherst College at Babson College's MacDowell Field. The game was moved to Babson Park due to unplayable field conditions at Wheaton's Keefe Field. Wheaton dropped its fifth straight game to fall to 3-11, while the Lord Jeffs, who entered today's action ranked eighth according to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA), improved to 8-3. Amherst came out of the gates fast this afternoon, taking a 4-0 advantage just 5:47 into play, as senior Alyssa Briody (Hopewell, NJ/Princeton Day School) assisted on all four scores. Sophomores Amy Craig (Denver, CO/George Washington) and Mary Noonan (West Roxbury, MA/Winsor School) each scored twice during that stretch. The Lord Jeffs ended up scoring the game's first 15 goals, including holding a 13-0 cushion at the half. Craig finished the opening stanza with a team-high five goals. Wheaton ended the shutout midway through the second half, as sophomore Bridget Thornton (Southington, CT/Cheshire Academy) recorded her eighth goal of the season. Junior Alexa Jurczak (Davidsonville, MD/Miss Porter's School) tacked on the Lyons' second goal nearly four minutes later before Amherst reeled off four straight tallies en route to its highest scoring output of the season. Briody and Craig paced the Lord Jeffs with six points each, as Briody offered five assists while Craig posted five goals. Senior Dana Kuper (Denver, CO/East) accounted for two tallies and three helpers, while classmate Lauren Dudley (Baltimore, MD/Bryn Mawr) turned in a hat trick. Four other Amherst players registered two goals apiece. Wheaton senior Kristin Konig (Montecito, CA/Cate School) took the loss after turning away 11 shots, while Lord Jeff junior Linda McEvoy (Rochester, NY/Brighton) had five saves in over 48 minutes.
