Lyons drop third straight following 20-5 setback to SUNY Geneseo

ORLANDO, FL- The Wheaton College women's lacrosse team finished its three-game southern swing on a down note Thursday afternoon, falling to State University of New York at Geneseo, 20-5. The Lyons slip to 0-3, while the Blue Knights remain unbeaten at 2-0.

Wheaton kept the game close in the early going, trailing 2-1 with less than 19 minutes remaining in the opening half, but Geneseo exploded for 12 of the stanza's final 13 tallies to take a commanding 14-2 advantage into the intermission. The Lyons were then outscored, 6-3 in the second half.

Juniors Meredith Hurd (Bath, ME/Hyde School) and Alexa Jurczak (Davidsonville, MD/Miss Porter's School) paced the Lyon attack with two goals apiece, while freshman Brittany King (Georgetown, MA/Proctor Academy) tallied for the third consecutive game.

For the Blue Knights, sophomore Maggie Morris (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) led all scorers with six goals. Junior Shauna Leonard (West Henrietta, NY/Rush Henrietta) posted three tallies and two assists, while senior Maggie Benham (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua) added two goals and three assists.

Senior goalie Kristin Konig (Montecito, CA/Cate School) turned aside 11 Geneseo shots in defeat, while Blue Knight sophomore netminder Hannah McKee (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca) made eight saves.

The Lyons return to the northeast and open their home slate on Tuesday versus New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) foe Tufts University. Game time at Keefe Field is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
