Lyons drop third straight following 20-5 setback to SUNY GeneseoMarch 15, 2007 ORLANDO, FL- The Wheaton College women's lacrosse team finished its three-game southern swing on a down note Thursday afternoon, falling to State University of New York at Geneseo, 20-5. The Lyons slip to 0-3, while the Blue Knights remain unbeaten at 2-0. Wheaton kept the game close in the early going, trailing 2-1 with less than 19 minutes remaining in the opening half, but Geneseo exploded for 12 of the stanza's final 13 tallies to take a commanding 14-2 advantage into the intermission. The Lyons were then outscored, 6-3 in the second half. Juniors Meredith Hurd (Bath, ME/Hyde School) and Alexa Jurczak (Davidsonville, MD/Miss Porter's School) paced the Lyon attack with two goals apiece, while freshman Brittany King (Georgetown, MA/Proctor Academy) tallied for the third consecutive game. For the Blue Knights, sophomore Maggie Morris (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) led all scorers with six goals. Junior Shauna Leonard (West Henrietta, NY/Rush Henrietta) posted three tallies and two assists, while senior Maggie Benham (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua) added two goals and three assists. Senior goalie Kristin Konig (Montecito, CA/Cate School) turned aside 11 Geneseo shots in defeat, while Blue Knight sophomore netminder Hannah McKee (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca) made eight saves. The Lyons return to the northeast and open their home slate on Tuesday versus New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) foe Tufts University.
