Wheaton to hold Konig dedication at Keefe Field on Homecoming SaturdaySeptember 29, 2006 NORTON, MA- Wheaton College will hold a dedication ceremony for the Konig family this Saturday during the school's Homecoming weekend on Keefe Field at halftime of the men's soccer game against Springfield College. Members of the media, general public and campus community are invited to attend. The ceremony will recognize Tom and Jeri Konig, parents of women's lacrosse senior goalie Kristin Konig (Montecito, CA/Cate School), whose generous gifts contributed to the renovations of Keefe into a first-class venue. The halftime recognition, which will include an acknowledgement and reading of a plaque dedicated to the Konig family, will be presided over by President Ronald A. Crutcher. Wheaton's Dean of Students, Sue Alexander, and Executive Director of Athletics, Chad Yowell, are also expected to assist with the presentation. The Keefe improvements include the additions of team bench and scoring table seating shelters, complete with the revamped Wheaton athletics logo prominently displayed on the glass, a six-foot wooden fence stretching behind the team benches, a traditional blue chain-link fencing surrounding the playing area and 20-foot net screens behind each goal frame. The Konig family's gift also provided the men's and women's lacrosse teams with uniforms, while the women have benefited with warm-up apparel and rain gear. Entering her third and final season on the women's lacrosse team, Kristin is coming off a year that included leading Wheaton to its fifth straight New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament championship game, with a 9-7 record. Pacing the conference in winning percentage, Kristin also finished third in goals against average and saves per game. She started each of the 16 games for the Lyons, playing in all but 117 minutes. Kristin's junior campaign performance translated into joining Wheaton's record book, as her 2006 single-season totals were good for seventh in minutes and tied for eighth in wins. She made 28 saves against Bowdoin College on March 29, the fourth-highest total ever recorded by a Lyon player. Kristin enters her senior season tied for fifth in career wins. She also ranks eighth in program history for career saves and minutes. Wheaton is a selective national liberal arts college with 1,550 students drawn from virtually every state and more than 60 countries. The college combines a traditional curriculum in the arts and sciences with an innovative emphasis on real-world experience - internships, jobs and volunteer service - to help students make the connection between theory and practice. Its students gain admission to the nation's most prestigious graduate programs and regularly win competitive academic awards such as the Rhodes, Marshall and Fulbright scholarships.
