Wheaton women's lacrosse, trio of athletes earn academic honorsAugust 21, 2006 NORTON, MA- The Wheaton College women's lacrosse team and a trio of 2006 graduates have been honored for academic excellence by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA). Each of the athletes and the team also earned laurels during the 2005 season. Julia Coit (South Portland, ME/South Portland), Rose Jackson (Indianapolis, IN/North Central) and Kate Weston (Bedford, MA/Bedford) were among 115 Division III student-athletes to earn a spot on the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll for their efforts in the classroom during the 2005-06 school year. The Lyons were one of 33 IWLCA Honor Squads after posting a 3.13 cumulative grade point average. Wheaton was one of only two New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) teams to qualify as an Honor Squad by posting a GPA during the second semester of 3.0 or higher. The IWLCA also honors student-athletes who hold junior or senior academic standing and have achieved a GPA of at least 3.2 for the spring semester. The three Wheaton players who earned academic accolades were among eight NEWMAC athletes on the list, and each was a 2006 NEWMAC Academic All-Conference qualifier. An international relations major, Jackson posted a 4.00 GPA during her final semester of college, Coit turned in a 3.78 mark while studying toward double degrees in biology and Spanish, and Weston had a 3.66 GPA as an English major. The Lyons posted a 9-7 mark in 2006, including a 5-1 record in the NEWMAC, and reached the league tournament championship game for the fifth consecutive season. Coit tied for first on the team with nine assists while finishing second with 37 goals and 46 points, while Weston started all 16 games at midfield. Jackson appeared in three games, including one start. This page is maintained by Scott Dietz. Last updated on 1/31/07. |
