Hurd notches NEWMAC Co-Player-of-the-Week honorsApril 24, 2006
A sophomore midfielder, Hurd recorded 12 goals and one assist in a pair of conference wins last week to help Wheaton nail down second place in the final NEWMAC regular season standings. She posted a career-high eight tallies to go along with one assist in Tuesday's 18-4 victory over Babson College while also securing four ground balls. During the Lyons' 13-11 win against Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) on Saturday, Hurd scored four times. Hurd has had a torrid last couple of weeks, netting 21 goals in five games after beginning the season with 16 in her first eight. With career and team highs of 37 goals and 42 points, Hurd is tied for eighth in the league in tallies and sits 10th in points. Hurd has helped Wheaton to a 7-6 overall record and a 5-1 conference mark. With its regular season complete, the second-seeded Lyons host number-seven Smith College during the first round of the NEWMAC Tournament on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. Wheaton downed the Pioneers, 15-3 on March 26 and won the last time the teams met in the playoffs, 22-3 in 2002.
