Wheaton's Konig honored as NEWMAC Co-Player of the WeekApril 3, 2006
Wheaton's junior goalie backstopped the Lyons to a 2-1 mark last week, posting a 6.85 goals against average and .719 save percentage. She picked up victories against Bridgewater State College on Monday and NEWMAC counterpart Mount Holyoke College on Saturday. Her only loss came by an 11-4 final to sixth-ranked Bowdoin College on Wednesday, as she stopped 28 shots, the most saves for a Wheaton goalie since 1999, and limited an offense which was averaging 16.8 goals. During the week, Konig made 46 saves and allowed 18 goals during 157:36 in net. After appearing in only one game during her first collegiate season in 2005, Konig has flourished as the Blue and White's regular keeper, leading the league in save percentage (.617) while placing second in each GAA (8.17), saves per game (11.29) and winning percentage (.667). Konig is also tied for second with four wins. Konig has led the Lyons to a 4-3 overall record and a spotless 2-0 NEWMAC mark. Wheaton returns to action at Springfield College on Saturday in a rematch of each of the last four NEWMAC Tournament championship games. The Pride won last year's contest, 12-10. The Blue and White puts a 14-game regular season conference winning streak on the line. This page is maintained by Scott Dietz. Last updated on 1/31/07. |
