Coit named NEWMAC Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week

March 28, 2006

NORTON, MA- Wheaton College women's lacrosse standout Julia Coit (South Portland, ME/South Portland) earned New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Player-of-the-Week honors for the week ending on Sunday, March 26.

A senior co-captain, Coit led Wheaton with a game-high five goals and one assist during Sunday's 15-3 victory over Smith in the Lyons' NEWMAC opener. Entering the week, Coit paced the conference's second-best offense with 15 goals and 18 points, figures which placed her in the top 10 in the NEWMAC for each category.

Coit followed up the conference award by recording her 100th career goal on Tuesday at Bridgewater State College, becoming the ninth player in program history to reach the plateau.

With the Lyons holding down a 3-2 overall mark and 1-0 NEWMAC record, Coit leads the Blue and White into action with non-conference foe Bowdoin College on Wednesday in Wheaton's home opener on Keefe Field at 4:15 p.m. The Polar Bears enter the game ranked sixth in the latest Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) poll.
