Women's lacrosse drops overtime heartbreaker in FloridaMarch 16, 2006 WELLINGTON, FL- The Wheaton College women's lacrosse team narrowly suffered an 18-17 overtime loss to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Thursday to complete its three-game spring break trip. Wheaton is now 1-2, while the Athenas are 5-2. The Lyons, who held an 8-6 halftime edge, led by as much as 10-6 before the Athenas countered with five straight goals. With Wheaton leading by one, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps knotted the game with one second left in regulation. In overtime, the Athenas scored the first three goals and had an 18-15 edge heading into the second half of the session, where they allowed senior Julia Coit's (South Portland, ME/South Portland) eighth goal of the game and a tally by sophomore Sara Dimick (Cumberland, ME/Greely) with 1:18 remaining but held on. Coit had a huge game with eight goals and an assist, while freshman Bridget Thornton (Southington, CT/Cheshire Academy) added three goals and three assists. Sophomore Meredith Hurd (Bath, ME/Hyde School) notched three goals and an assist, classmate Alexa Jurczak (Davidsonville, MD/Miss Porter's School) scored twice, and senior Caitlin Tierney (Wellesley, MA/The Rivers School) tallied three helpers. In net, juniors Mary Catherine Boll (Columbus, IN/Miss Porter's School) and Kristin Konig (Montecito, CA/Cate School) combined for 15 saves. The Lyons open play up north on Sunday, March 26 in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest at Smith College at 1:00 p.m. This page is maintained by Scott Dietz.
