Women's lacrosse suffers first loss of season to 18th-ranked UrsinusMarch 14, 2006 WELLINGTON, FL- The Wheaton College women's lacrosse team suffered its first loss of the season, a 14-4 setback at the hands of nationally-ranked Ursinus College, on Tuesday. The Lyons fell to 1-1, while the Bears, who are 18th in the most recent Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) poll, remained undefeated at 3-0. Ursinus scored the first two goals of the contest before sophomore Alexa Jurczak (Davidsonville, MD/Miss Porter's School) tallied 11:49 into the game to make the score 2-1. The Bears only led 4-2 after freshman Bridget Thornton (Southington, CT/Cheshire Academy) notched her first goal of the game, but Ursinus recorded the next nine goals over a 19:36 span to put the game away. Thornton led Wheaton's offense with a pair of goals and an assist, while senior Caitlin Tierney (Wellesley, MA/The Rivers School) also chipped in a goal. Juniors Kristin Konig (Montecito, CA/Cate School) and Mary Catherine Boll (Columbus, IN/Miss Porter's School) combined for nine saves as Ursinus held a 31-25 advantage in shots. The Lyons take tomorrow off before completing their three-game Florida trip on Thursday against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges at 4:30 p.m. This page is maintained by Scott Dietz.
