May 29, 2005

NORTON, MA- Wheaton College women's lacrosse standout Vanessa Pisano (Vineyard Haven, MA/Martha's Vineyard) was announced to play in the STX Farewell Lacrosse Festival North-South Senior All-Star game on Saturday, June 4 at the University of Maryland at Baltimore County beginning at 11:00 a.m.

The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) and Marriott Inc. joined STX to sponsor the event, which showcases the nation's top seniors. The Division III game will be followed by the Division II game at 1:00 p.m. and the Division I game at 3:00 p.m.

Pisano was named New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Player of the Year in addition to picking up NEWMAC All-Conference first-team honors for the fourth time in her career. As a freshman, Pisano was voted NEWMAC Rookie of the Year.

Becoming only the second Wheaton player to surpass the 300-point milestone, Pisano's 83 points this season moved her to the top of the school's scoring charts with an astounding 337 points. Pisano finished her outstanding career with 286 goals, 51 assists and 337 points, placing her third and 14th, respectively, on the NCAA Division III all-time scoring list.

Pisano's offensive performances this spring ranked among the national leaders in several statistical categories, including third in goals per game (4.73) and ninth in draw controls per contest (4.33) and points per game (5.53). She led the NEWMAC in goals scored (71) and draw controls (65), and finished second in total points, 10th in assists (12) and tied for 10th in ground balls (42) and caused turnovers (27).

Wheaton captured its third successive NEWMAC regular season championship while advancing to the conference tournament title game for the fourth straight year. Wheaton had held an impressive 17-game conference winning streak prior to April's setback to Springfield College in the championship game. Ranked nationally throughout most of the season, the Lyons posted an unblemished 6-0 NEWMAC record en route to an 11-5 mark overall.
