Pisano voted NEWMAC Player of the Year, Wheaton boasts four players to conference's first teamMay 3, 2005 WORCESTER, MA- The Wheaton College women's lacrosse team had an impressive five players voted to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-Conference teams during Tuesday morning's postseason coaches meeting held at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). In addition to boasting the NEWMAC Player of the Year for the fourth consecutive season, the Lyons had four players named to the all-conference first team and one to the second squad. Senior midfielder Vanessa Pisano (Vineyard Haven, MA/Martha's Vineyard) was named NEWMAC Player of the Year in addition to being selected to the first team for the fourth consecutive season, while senior goalkeeper A.J. Vasiliou (Middletown, CT/Mercy), junior midfielder Molly Cronin (Brownsville, VT/Woodstock Union) and sophomore defender Kim Corbin (Branford, CT/Branford) were also tabbed to the first squad. Senior defender Andrea Davis (Wilbraham, MA/Minnechaug Regional) was selected as a second-team honoree. Pisano became Wheaton's all-time leading scorer this season with an astounding 286 career goals and 337 career points, placing her third and 14th, respectively, on the NCAA Division III scoring list. With 83 points this season, Pisano is among the national leaders in several statistical categories, including ranking third in goals per game (4.73), seventh in draw controls per contest (4.33) and 10th in points per game (5.53). Pisano leads the NEWMAC in goals (71) and draw controls (65), is second in total points, tied for ninth in assists (12) and caused turnovers (27) and tied for 10th in ground balls (42). Vasiliou was also named to the NEWMAC All-Conference first team for the fourth straight season. She ranks second in the conference with an 8.11 goals against average, .513 save percentage and .688 winning percentage. Playing in all but 20 minutes of the team's season, Vasiliou also stands fourth in the NEWMAC in saves per game with an 8.38 average. Cronin is among the conference's elite in caused turnovers and draw controls, ranking sixth in both categories with 32 caused turnovers and 31 draw controls in 16 starts. She has scored six goals and distributed three assists with 30 ground balls for the Lyons. Defensively, Corbin helped lead the Lyons to an 8.06 goals against average, which ranks second behind tournament champion Springfield College. Corbin has 19 ground balls, 15 caused turnovers and a pair of assists in 15 starts. Davis is among the national leaders in caused turnovers at 2.75 per game while ranking second in the conference with 44 total and fourth in ground balls with 50 in 16 starts. Wheaton captured its third consecutive NEWMAC regular season championship with a perfect 6-0 record. Reaching the NEWMAC Tournament title game for the fourth straight season, the Lyons are in search of a postseason bid with an 11-5 record.
