Pisano runs NEWMAC Player-of-the-Week honors to three

NORTON, MA- Wheaton College women's lacrosse senior standout Vanessa Pisano (Vineyard Haven, MA/Martha's Vineyard) ran her New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Player-of-the-Week selections to three this season with today's award. She was named NEWMAC Co-Player of the Week for the week ending on Sunday, April 24.

Pisano helped lead 16th-ranked Wheaton to its third consecutive NEWMAC regular season championship, as the senior attack totaled 12 goals and two assists in a 2-1 week. Pisano tallied five goals and one assist on two occasions, including Tuesday's 16-7 victory at Babson College and Sunday's 11-8 loss to third-ranked Amherst College.

Pisano also had two goals in Saturday's 14-11 win at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), leading the Lyons to a perfect 6-0 conference mark for the second straight season. She now has 277 goals and 328 points in her career, placing her fifth and tied for 17th, respectively, on the NCAA Division III all-time scoring list.

Pisano is among the NEWMAC leaders in several statistical categories, including leading the pack in draw controls (56) and goals per game (4.43). She is tied for first in draw controls per game (4.00), second in goals (62), points (74) and points per game (5.29), tied for fifth in assists (12), sixth in assists per game (0.86), eighth in caused turnovers (23), tied for eighth in ground balls (35), 10th in caused turnovers per game (1.64) and tied for 10th in ground balls per game (2.50).

As a team, Wheaton reached double-figure win totals for the sixth consecutive season over the weekend. Posting an overall record of 10-4, the Lyons are set to host their third straight NEWMAC Tournament beginning on Saturday, April 30. Wheaton will face the winner of number-four seed Babson and number-five seed MIT at Keefe Field at 12:00 p.m.
