Lyons' three-game winning streak snapped at nationally-ranked Trinity

April 14, 2005

HARTFORD, CT- The Wheaton College women's lacrosse team had its three-game winning streak come to an end Thursday evening at Trinity College, as the 10th-ranked Lyons fell to the 16th-ranked Bantams, 13-4 in non-conference action. Wheaton slips to 7-3 with the loss, while Trinity improves to 8-3 on the season.

The hosts scored early and often against the visiting Lyons, as the Bantams tallied five unanswered goals to start the contest, including a goal by sophomore Courtney Collins (Old Field, NY/Ward Melville) just 10 seconds into regulation.

Trinity carried a commanding 8-2 advantage into the intermission, as senior co-captain Beatrice Gratry (Hunting Valley, OH/Deerfield Academy) led all scorers with six goals. Senior co-captain Vanessa Pisano (Vineyard Haven, MA/Martha's Vineyard) and freshman Alexa Jurczak (Davidsonville, MD/Miss Porter's School) had the first-half goals for the Lyons.

Trinity began the second half similar to the opening stanza, posting four consecutive goals to put the game out of reach. Junior Julia Coit (South Portland, ME/South Portland) scored Wheaton's third goal 13 minutes into the second half, and the Bantams and Lyons exchanged the game's final two goals of the half to complete the scoring. Senior co-captain Caddie Jackson (Deerfield, MA/Deerfield Academy) rounded out Wheaton's goal scorers with her tally coming with four minutes to play.

Gratry finished the contest with an impressive eight goals and one assist, while sophomore Lauren Malinowski (Longmeadow, MA/Longmeadow) and freshman Emily Allen (Penfield, NY/Penfield) each scored twice for the Bantams.

Wheaton senior goalie A.J. Vasiliou (Middletown, CT/Mercy) accounted for 13 saves, while Trinity first-year goalkeeper Michelle Smith (Wayland, MA/Wayland) made six stops in the win.

The Lyons will remain out of conference on Saturday, April 16, when they host local opponent Bridgewater State College at Keefe Field at 2:00 p.m.
