Pisano becomes Wheaton women's lacrosse's all-time leading scorer, earns second NEWMAC Player-of-the-Week selectionApril 11, 2005 NORTON, MA- Wheaton College women's lacrosse senior standout Vanessa Pisano (Vineyard Haven, MA/Martha's Vineyard) has had a memorable week, as she became the school's all-time leading scorer, surpassed the 300-point milestone and earned New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Player-of-the-Week honors for the second time this season. The conference award is for the week ending on Sunday, April 10. Pisano's six-point effort in Saturday's 11-4 win over Springfield College placed her first on Wheaton's all-time scoring list with 305 points. She became only the second player in school history to reach the 300-point plateau. In addition to tallying three goals and three assists against Springfield, Pisano had five goals and one assist in Thursday's 10-8 decision over Mount Holyoke College. On Monday, Pisano registered four goals in a 10-9 non-conference loss at nationally-ranked Wesleyan University. For the week, she totaled 16 points in the form of 12 goals and four assists with 16 draw controls, eight ground balls and eight caused turnovers. Pisano also became Wheaton's top goal scorer this week with 258 career tallies, passing Lauren Maynes '04, who finished her four-year career with 254 goals and 303 points. Pisano is also quickly moving up the leaderboard in all of Division III for most goals in a career. Her 258 goals currently stands 10th overall, as she is just 13 tallies away from moving into the top five. In the conference, Pisano leads the way in goals scored (43), draw controls (41), goals per game (5.38), points per game (6.38) and draw controls per game (5.12). She also stands second in points (51), fifth in assists (8), tied for fifth in assists per game (1.00), tied for sixth in caused turnovers (16) and caused turnovers per game (2.00), ninth in ground balls per game (2.75) and tied for ninth in ground balls (22). Ranked 11th in the nation with a 6-2 record, the Lyons will look to extend their 13-game conference winning streak on Tuesday afternoon against Wellesley College at home at 4:00 p.m. This page is maintained by Scott Dietz.
