Lyons get back to winning ways with 10-8 win over Mount Holyoke

SPRINGFIELD, MA- The Wheaton College women's lacrosse team, ranked 11th in the nation according to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA), ended its two-game losing skid Thursday night at Springfield College, as the Lyons defeated Mount Holyoke College, 10-8 in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) makeup game.

Wheaton remains unbeaten in the NEWMAC at 2-0 while improving its overall record to 5-2, while Mount Holyoke slips to 5-4 on the season with a 0-2 mark in conference play.

Senior All-America attack Vanessa Pisano (Vineyard Haven, MA/Martha's Vineyard) accounted for six points in the form of five goals and one assist, placing her just one point away from reached the coveted 300-point milestone. Freshman Meredith Hurd (Bath, ME/Hyde School) contributed two goals on the night, as the Lyons held a 6-3 advantage at the intermission.

Rounding out Wheaton's goal scorers were senior Kyla Graves (Warner, NH/Kearsarge Regional), junior Molly Cronin (Brownsville, VT/Woodstock Union) and freshman Sara Dimick (Cumberland, ME/Greely). Senior goalkeeper A.J. Vasiliou (Middletown, CT/Mercy) earned her fifth victory of the season with a nine-save performance.

For Mount Holyoke, junior Caitlin Taylor (Yarmouth, ME/Yarmouth) picked up a hat-trick to go along with her one assist, while classmate Lisa Paul (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) and freshman Danielle Babcock (Lexington, MA/Lexington) each added two goals in the loss. Junior goalkeeper Lauren Mulcahy (Norfolk, MA/King Philip) accounted for 13 saves for the Lyons.

Wheaton returns home on Saturday to face Springfield in a rematch of last year's conference championship game. The 2-0 Lyons are slated to face the 2-0 Pride on Keefe Field at 1:00 p.m.
