Ahern and Rasamny selected for NEILA East-West Senior All-Star gameMay 29, 2008
This is the third straight season two Lyons will play in the contest, which incorporates athletes from Divisions I, II and III. Ahern and Rasamny, two of the Lyons' three captains and recent graduates, are slated to suit up for the East team. Ahern's honor is his second of the spring, as he was also named to the Pilgrim League All-Conference first team. Ahern, who started all 17 games on defense and placed second on the team with 50 ground balls, provided a veteran presence to a defense that yielded seven goals or fewer a conference-high six times during league action. He grabbed at least three ground balls eight times and was penalized only twice all season, including not once in Pilgrim play. Dating back to his sophomore year, Ahern played 46 of a possible 48 games, making 43 starts. Already this spring, Rasamny had been named to the NEILA All-New England and Pilgrim League All-Conference second teams. Just one of two Wheaton upperclassmen to play on the offensive side of the ball, the midfielder tallied 20 goals, 13 assists and 33 points while scoring three man-up markers. Rasamny completed his career ranked ninth in program history with 116 points. In addition to scoring 60 goals, he is tied for third in school annals in assists (56), having become just the fourth Lyon with 50 goals and assists. He also appeared in a school-record 61 games. Wheaton went 5-2 in league play this season, turning in its best Pilgrim finish since 1998 by tying for second in the conference standings. The Lyons recorded a Pilgrim League Tournament semifinal victory before falling just 9-5 to perennial conference power Springfield College in the championship game. The Blue and White finished 8-9 overall. This page is maintained by Scott Dietz. Last updated on 6/13/08. |
