Seven multi-goal scorers push Wheaton to season-high 19 markersApril 19, 2008 NORTHFIELD, VT- Seven players scored multiple goals, and the Wheaton College men's lacrosse team won its third straight Pilgrim League game with a 19-4 victory over Norwich University at Howard Field on Saturday. Now 5-8 overall and 3-2 in the conference, the Lyons currently hold down fourth place in a league that sends its top four teams to the postseason. Norwich fell to 2-8 and 0-5. Wheaton had already set a single-game season high for goals by halftime, pulling out to a 17-4 advantage. The Lyons opened the first quarter with three goals in the initial 5:05 of action and led 5-1 after 7:05. Norwich got back on the board with 1:39 before halftime, but freshman Bobby Barry (Duxbury, MA/Duxbury) countered 32 seconds later, and the Lyons headed to halftime with a 17-4 lead. Wheaton took only six shots in the third quarter, with freshman Corey Best (Brentwood, TN/Ravenwood) tallying his second goal of the game at 7:58 and sophomore Andrew Brunhofer (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) scoring at 3:19. The Lyons attempted three shots in the fourth quarter, and the visitors finished the second half with a 2-0 edge in goals. Cederberg led all scorers with three goals and four assists, Garceau had two goals and two helpers, and Barry, Best, Landers, Schaffer and Whitney finished with two markers apiece. During the contest, Best and freshman Alex Voucas (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield Ludlowe) each recorded the first goals of their respective careers, while freshman Peter Buongiorno (Pittsburgh, PA/Winchester Thurston School) tallied two assists for his first points. In goal, sophomore Alex Lewis (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) made five saves in the opening 45 minutes before classmate Schuyler Horn (New Hartford, CT/Kingswood-Oxford School) stopped three shots in the fourth. Freshman Tyler Woods (Essex Junction, VT/Essex) led Norwich with two goals. Freshman Nick Bakos (Hamden, CT/Hamden) made nine first-half saves, while sophomore Nathan Huckins (Lebanon, NH/Lebanon) made two in relief during the second half.
