Men's lacrosse drops 14-3 decision at non-league foe Connecticut College

April 15, 2008

NEW LONDON, CT- The Wheaton College men's lacrosse team suffered a 14-3 non-conference loss at Connecticut College Tuesday on Freeman Field. The Lyons, who began a three-game road swing today, slip to 3-8 overall, while the Camels collected their second straight win to improve to 7-5.

Wheaton never led in the contest but evened the score at one in the first quarter and trailed 3-2 during the early going of the second. After the hosts tallied at 11:35 of the opening period, Wheaton freshman Chris Landers (Manchester, MA/Proctor Academy) converted junior Jeff Gomer's (Duxbury, MA/Duxbury) pass nearly seven minutes later to knot the game.

The Camels scored consecutive times during a 44-second span to close out the first before sophomore Drew Schaffer (New Haven, CT/Loomis Chaffee School) narrowed the gap to a single goal 2:29 into the second. However, Connecticut College responded with four unanswered tallies over 5:26 and didn't look back. The Camels registered 11 of the game's final 12 goals, including the last seven beginning at the 1:48 mark of the second quarter.

In addition to Landers and Schaffer, sophomore Warren Garceau (Guilford, CT/Canterbury School) accounted for a Wheaton goal. Gomer and sophomore Tim Horan (Cheshire, CT/Cheshire) were credited with one assist apiece, while classmate Alex Lewis (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) stopped nine Camel shots in his first start of the season.

Sophomore Steve Dachille (Garden City, NY/Garden City) led all scorers with four goals, while freshman Ryan Hayes (Darien, CT/Fairfield Prep) totaled a pair of tallies and four assists. Junior Jesse Stevenson (Marshfield, MA/Marshfield) accounted for two goals and two helpers. Sophomore Mark Moran (Greenwich, CT/Brunswick School) earned the win with seven saves in 54 minutes.

The Lyons turn back around tomorrow for a Pilgrim League contest at Massachusetts Maritime Academy beginning at 4:00 p.m.
