Schaffer's tally caps rally, Lyons knock off Trinity by 8-6 countMarch 26, 2008 NORTON, MA- Sophomore Drew Schaffer's (New Haven, CT/Loomis Chaffee School) marker midway through the fourth quarter proved to be the winner, and Wheaton College men's lacrosse knocked off Trinity College, 8-6 on Wednesday in Mirrione Stadium. The Lyons are 2-3, while the Bantams lost their third straight in falling to 3-3. Despite being outshot in the second half, 20-8, Wheaton scored four goals and allowed only one. With his team trailing by two, Rasamny assisted Schaffer with a man up and 6:20 remaining in the first half, but Bantam sophomore Harper Cullen (Rehoboth Beach, DE/Episcopal) made it 5-3 at 2:42. From there, Wheaton netted five of the game's last six goals, beginning with junior Jeff Gomer's (Duxbury, MA/Duxbury) tally 34.2 seconds before halftime. Rasamny then converted a Landers helper at 12:28 of the third to knot the contest before Gomer's second goal of the game, at 8:21, put Wheaton in front, 6-5. Cullen lent a hand on senior Jeremy Ulan's (Scarsdale, NY/Scarsdale) tying tally with 2:34 to go in the period. At 8:05 of the final quarter, Schaffer snapped the final tie by going five-hole for his second marker. With two minutes to go, Trinity had a golden opportunity to pull even, but Wheaton sophomore keeper Schuyler Horn (New Hartford, CT/Kingswood-Oxford School) stuffed Cullen's shot from the doorstep. The Bantams possessed in the Lyon zone for much of the final two minutes of regulation, but the hosts weathered a barrage of shots before providing themselves with some breathing room. Freshman Cody Powers (Scarborough, ME/Scarborough) scooped up a ground ball with less than 50 seconds remaining and carried across midfield before passing to sophomore Tim Horan (Cheshire, CT/Cheshire), who found Landers for his second goal with 34.5 ticks left. Gomer, Landers, Rasamny and Schaffer each scored twice for Wheaton, while Horn had 11 saves. Rasamny is now within six points of 100 for his career and moved into a tie for sixth in program history with 47 career assists. For Trinity, six different players scored, as Cullen tallied and dished out three assists. Junior keeper Graham Fadden (New Canaan, CT/Westminster) suffered the loss in relief, making one save in 22:19. The Lyons begin their Pilgrim League slate on Saturday when they travel to Springfield College for a 12:00 p.m. start. The Pride was selected as Inside Lacrosse's preseason favorite to win the conference.
