Men's lacrosse hangs tough early before falling to host Colby, 11-2March 15, 2008 WATERVILLE, ME- The Wheaton College men's lacrosse team trailed by a single goal 22 seconds into the second quarter before host Colby College tallied eight unanswered scores in posting an 11-2 non-conference win Saturday afternoon at Alfond Field. The Lyons fell to 0-2, while the Mules raised their record to 3-0. After Colby opened the scoring 6:46 into action, Wheaton senior co-captain Richie Rasamny (Redding, CT/Joel Barlow) evened things up 2:18 later. The Mules scored the game's next two goals, including their third with seven ticks left in the first period. Sophomore Tim Horan (Cheshire, CT/Cheshire) drove home a man-up tally at the 14:38 minute mark of the second period to narrow Wheaton's gap to one, but the Lyons didn't score again. The hosts posted consecutive scores 47 seconds apart in the second to take a 5-2 lead into the intermission before rattling off six second-half goals. In addition to Rasamny's score, Horan finished with one goal and one assist, while freshman Ben Cederberg (Duxbury, MA/Duxbury) added an assist. Sophomore goalkeeper Schuyler Horn (New Hartford, CT/Kingswood-Oxford School) turned aside a career-best 20 shots in nearly 53 minutes, while classmate Alex Lewis (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) had three stops in relief. Colby sophomore Stew Brown (Wilton, CT/Wilton) led all scorers with five points on two goals and three assists, while senior Dana McNally (Sudbury, MA/Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) and junior Caddy Brooks (Darien, CT/Salisbury School) had four points each. Junior Alex Farmer (Madison, CT/Daniel Hand) picked up the win in net with seven saves through three quarters, and sophomore Tom Gianakos (Simsbury, CT/Avon Old Farms School) was credited with six saves in the fourth. Wheaton hosts nationally-ranked Endicott College in its home opener Tuesday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. The unbeaten Gulls are currently ranked 16th nationally in the most recent United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) poll.
