Six Wheaton men's lacrosse players garner Pilgrim all-academic honorsMay 8, 2007 NORTON, MA- Six Wheaton College men's lacrosse players garnered Pilgrim League Academic All-Conference laurels, marking the Lyons' largest contingent since seven were honored for the 2004 season. Senior Taylor Palmer (Cross River, NY/John Jay) was among the sextet, becoming the first four-time academic all-conference qualifier in program history. Senior Chris Hade (Franklin Lakes, NJ/Dwight-Englewood School), junior Chris Hart (Center Harbor, NH/New Hampton School), and freshmen Warren Garceau (Guilford, CT/Canterbury, School), Schuyler Horn (New Hartford, CT/Kingswood-Oxford School) and Drew Schaffer (New Haven, CT/Loomis Chaffee School) were also named to the team. Honorees must follow a certain criteria to qualify, including having a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or better upon completion of the 2006 fall semester and participating on the varsity team for the entire season. While appearing in all 14 games at the midfield, Palmer tied for the team lead with 56 ground balls, which also tied him for sixth in the conference. During his four-year career, which included a sophomore season cut short due to injury, Palmer tallied 102 ground balls in 47 games. Hade, who recently earned his second all-league accolade, is an academic all-conference qualifier for the first time since his freshman year. One of Wheaton's three captains, he appeared in all 14 games in the backfield, picking up 48 ground balls while turning in an assist. Hade finished his career with 225 ground balls in 59 games. In his second season of college lacrosse, Hart earned his second academic honor. He appeared in two contests this spring for the Lyons. Garceau played in nine games before his season came to an end with an injury, as he took 36 draws and scored his first goal against Norwich University on April 7. Horn was one of two freshman goalies who saw a good amount of action, as he started seven games and earned his initial victory versus Massachusetts Maritime Academy on April 23. Schaffer started 13 games, finishing second on the team with 16 assists and added 25 points. He was seventh in the league in helpers, and second among freshmen.
