Three Lyons earn Pilgrim League All-Conference lacrosse laurels

May 7, 2007

WORCESTER, MA- Three Wheaton College men's lacrosse players earned spots on the Pilgrim League All-Conference teams during Monday's postseason coaches meeting at Clark University. Senior Chris Hade (Franklin Lakes, NJ/Dwight-Englewood School) and junior Richie Rasamny (Redding, CT/Joel Barlow) were each named to the first team for the initial time, while sophomore Jeff Gomer (Duxbury, MA/Duxbury) earned a spot on the second team as a first-time all-conference selection.

Hade, a second teamer in 2006, was the most veteran defensive player in front of a pair of freshman goalies who started 11 games, as the Lyons yielded fewer than 10 tallies on seven occasions. A tri-captain, Hade was ninth in the league during the regular season with 48 ground balls in 14 games, including collecting 31 during conference play to average nearly four per game. Despite providing a physical presence at 6' 4", Hade drew only five penalties, including just two in league action. He grabbed a ground ball in every game, including more than one in 12 contests, and finished his career with 225 ground balls, four assists and two goals from his backfield position in 59 games.

Rasamny, a midfielder and one of three captains, was an integral part in Wheaton's offense, playing a hand in 41.2 percent of the Lyons' goals, including 40.6 percent in conference play. Rasamny notched career highs of 42 points, 22 goals and 20 assists after entering the year with two-year totals of 41, 18 and 23, respectively. As one of only three Lyons to start all 14 games, he tallied at least one point in every game while being held without a goal only once. Rasamny tied for third in the Pilgrim League during the regular season in assists, placed fourth in points and tied for eighth in goals. He notched multiple points 11 times, including in all eight league games.

As one of the most dependable draw men in the league, Gomer earned a spot on the all-conference team as a face-off specialist. In four fewer games than his freshman year, Gomer turned in career highs for face-off wins (116) and winning percentage (57.7). He finished second in the league during the regular season in face-off percentage and tied for sixth in ground balls (56). Gomer recorded at least one ground ball during all 13 games in which he appeared, tallying multiple ground balls 11 times. He won multiple face-offs in all 13 games, including five-plus 11 times and 10-plus in six contests. During league play, Gomer won 62 percent of his face-offs, going 85-for-137.

Wheaton finished 4-10 under second-year head coach Peter Toner, as the Lyons' 4-4 mark in Pilgrim League play tied them for fifth in the conference and just short of a tournament bid.
