MANSFIELD, MA- The Wheaton College men's lacrosse team opened its 2007 season with a 13-7 loss to Bates College on Saturday at Mansfield High School, as the Lyons scored the final five goals of the contest, which was also Bates' first game of the spring.

Upon breaking into the scoring column 6:53 into the game, Bates proceeded to tally four goals in a 5:35 span of the first quarter and held an 8-1 lead with 5:07 left before halftime. The visitors scored three times during another 3:24 stretch and took a 10-2 advantage into the locker room. After Wheaton fell behind by a 13-2 count, the Lyons tallied the final five goals of the game in a span of 5:46 in the fourth quarter. Four different Blue and White players scored during that time, and Bates also knocked the ball into its own net for another Wheaton tally.

Freshman Schuyler Horn (New Hartford, CT/Kingswood-Oxford School) made five saves during 30 minutes as the starting goaltender in his collegiate debut, while junior Jeremy Beech (West Newbury, MA/Governor Dummer Academy) made eight stops in the second half, as Bates held a 33-18 advantage in shots.
